Myofascial Release, developed by John Barnes, is a type of deep tissue release that focuses on the fascia in the whole body. (The fascia can be seen as a matrix of tissue that surrounds all the various cells in the body.) It can help reverse the effects of physical and emotional trauma, which can cause us to develop abnormal patterns of moving and posturing. It can remedy chronic pain of all sorts, leg length discrepancies, sacroiliac or TMJ disorders or problems in the alignment of the body. Through this process, we can also "unwind" on a very deep level, releasing the energy of long-held traumas we have been holding onto.
With you lying on the table, Trudy gives various degrees of pressure to your body where it seems “stiff” in the connective tissue system. With this treatment, the web of tissue softens and the muscles, organs and joints become more flexible, reducing pain and tension and old patterns of emotional “holding.” The body is free to “unwind” to find more physical and emotional comfort.
During Myofascial Release work, work is done directly on the skin. It is most helpful if you avoid using lotions for this treatment. Also, you may want to bring loose sweats or shorts and/or a tank top or bra, to allow as much skin/skin contact as possible.
